Each Spring brings a new vibe—cleaning and clearing out things, planning vacations, golf, cold beer, and BBQ’s. You know, the usual. But this year??? Spring has taken on a whole new meaning.

This new Spring feeling is different—it’s like something I didn’t realize I was missing finally arrived. It started with those first green sprouts breaking through like little bursts of colorful confetti.

After months of cold and quiet, seeing them return feels like a quiet celebration of a new sort of accomplishment.

Here are some of the plants that survived all four seasons and thrived in Our Charming Backyard Butterfly Garden enough to start another season from scratch!
We did it! We completed a full one year cycle of natural, effortless gardening. I stood there, just taking it all in, surprised by the wave of fulfillment that washed over me. Not so much pride, but a deep, quiet satisfaction—like something meaningful had taken root not just in the soil, but somewhere deep in my heart.

This special moment made me wonder, “Is this what draws people back to the garden, season after season?” and “Do all gardeners eventually feel this growing sense of wonder…”. I find myself day dreaming about which butterflies will stop by, where they’ll lay their eggs and which blooms they’ll choose as their favorite nectar source. Each day, as the garden wakes up a little more, I feel this quiet, steady joy—like I’m part of something bigger, something quietly amazing.

After all, we need oxygen to survive—and it’s plants that quietly offer us that life-sustaining gift. Only now am I starting to realize how truly vital the plants we’ve nurtured are—not just to our garden, but to the entire planet and every living thing on it. I’m learning to feel real gratitude—for the plants, the caterpillars, and the quiet cooperation of nature at work behind it all. There’s something grounding and generous in it… something that feels safe. It’s helping me feel more connected, more alive, and more in sync with nature as it slowly wakes up around me.
Today is March 26, 2025.
Meet our new 2025 caterpillars!
Yesterday, I spotted four little ones, though I only managed to catch three on camera—the fourth was a bit shy and kept out of sight. They all seem to be on their own little missions, but they look about the same size, so I’m guessing they’re quadruplets. That’s a fun change—up until now, they’ve usually shown up in groups of three!

We’re excited to share that our little experiment—planting the Passion Vine directly in the ground and hoping for the best—actually worked! It made it through the entire winter, leaves and all. It’s a first for us and a big win for Our Charming Backyard Butterfly Garden. Now, beginning our second year together, the vine is already showing signs of resilience and strength… and soon, those beautiful blooms I’ve been waiting for. With caterpillars already here, I can’t wait to welcome the butterflies back home. We’ve all really missed them.

If you’re thinking about starting your own butterfly garden—or even just planting a few pollinator-friendly plants—I’d love to hear your story! Whether you have questions, need ideas, or just want to share what’s growing in your yard, leave a comment below. Let’s grow some beautiful plants together.
