Who we are

Lisa and Klas Gothager

How it all started

My love for butterflies began when I was a kid, drawing and coloring them alongside flowers—my favorite things to doodle on textbook covers and scrap paper. But it wasn’t until my husband and I bought our 1st home together that I gave gardening a real try. At first, it was more frustrating than fun. That all changed after our first visit to Flora Farms in Cabo, Mexico. Surrounded by fluttering butterflies, dining in a lush garden on fresh organic pizza and homemade beer—I felt something spark. That moment inspired me to recreate that same feeling of beauty, peace, and life right in our own backyard.

Our story

Despite two years of not-so-great attempts at gardening, and a strong desire to recreate the warm fuzzy ambiance we turned our backyard into a butterfly garden. We started in March 2023, when we added 4 new gardens with all new native host and nectar plants. Do you know what the best news is? We did it! We accomplished one successful year of butterfly rearing and gardening. We raised hundreds of caterpillars keeping everyone tidy in their ecosystem with about 22 found chrysalis for us to view as they eclosed. It all clicked once we found our passion for raising butterflies.

We keep nature natural

We “keep nature rooted” in butterfly rearing and gardening, emphasizing cooperation with nature to maintain its most natural state. We use worm castings and compost while we keep caterpillars on their birth plant enduring all weather conditions through each season.
