Look who made a visit to Our Charming Backyard Butterfly Garden today!

Say hello to our newest friend, Question Mark! This cute little butterfly found its way to the puddling station we created for butterflies. While it happily sipped on the water, I couldn’t believe it allowed me to get up so close to take these photos.

Out of curiosity, I learned the origin behind its name, Question Mark. This is what I found: Take a closer peek you’ll spot the distinctive white mark on its hindwing resembling a question mark in the above left picture. But here’s the curious twist: in the above right picture, a line gracefully arcs above three dots, forming the unmistakable silhouette of a question mark on the upper part of its forewing. It’s a fascinating tale of nature’s ingenuity. Interestingly, it shares a striking resemblance with its cousin, the Eastern Comma, which lacks the defining dot and arc, making it a delightful punctuation in the butterfly world.
